The Japa Chronicles EP takes its name from "japa," the Naija word for leaving, for the great migration out. Its cover says it all: a man in a green blazer and red wrapper, briefcase in hand, mid-stride and barefoot, running toward something just out of frame. It is funny and serious at once, which is exactly how the music feels.
His earlier album, Nostalgia, is the other half of the story. Thirteen tracks looking back where Japa looks forward. Together the two records read as a diptych: departure and longing, the run and the remembering.
